By 1881 he and his wife were back in Jersey, staying at St Aubin, with their visiting married daughter, Emma Hunt and her son Frederick

By 1921, he was established as a wine merchant, employer, living at Runnymede, Roseville Street, with business premises at 35 New Street, living with his wife Minnie Clarke. By 1932 the wine merchant`s business appears to have been taken over by Allain and Company
