Descendants of Mathieu Hocquard

This was primarily a Trinity surname. As such, it did not feature in the St John section of the Oath of Association Roll, 1696. The name has, nonetheless, occurred in the parish, in two branches, from the early 18th century. The tree was added to the site in 2015 and reviewed in 2019
It was further reviewed in 2021 by Guy Dixon and considerably extended. The descendants of Noe and of Matthieu Hocquard, both of whom are shown in generation 3, appear now to be reliable

In common with the majority of our trees, this descendancy has been subject to regular review by site editors and checked against Jersey church records. Trees including French ancestry have also been checked as far as possible against French primary records. It is not always possible to carry out such checks on sections of trees with United Kingdom and/or colonial content
If you want to search for records for any name in this family tree, or for any other family name, just click below on the first letter of the family name you are interested in. This will open a new tab in your browser giving you a list of family names beginning with that letter, for which there are baptism records in our database of half a million church and public registry records.
You can also select marriages or burials. Select the name you want and when the list of records is displayed you can easily refine the search, choosing a single parish, given name(s) and/or start and end dates.
The records are displayed 30 to a page, but by selecting the Wiki Table option at the top left of the page you can open a full, scrollable list. This list will either be displayed in a new tab or a pop-up window. You may have to edit the settings of your browser to allow pop-up windows for www.jerripediabmd.net. For the small number of family names for which a search generates more than 1,500 records you will have to refine your search (perhaps using start or end dates) to reduce the number of records found.

- ↑ Originally a Carpenter, he was in 1853 styled Merchant, when living with his first wife and child at Malbay, Gaspé. Abraham Hocquard then emigrated to Melbourne, Australia, and then to Picton, New Zealand. There, he embarked upon an ambitious enterprise. A 1976 article relating to swimming baths, records that "One hundred and ten years ago, there were baths in Picton. A Mr Hocquard ran private baths on the east side of the harbour. An advertisement in the Marlborough Express of 31 October 1866 stated: "See the new bathing establishment erected on the east side of Picton Bay. Separate dressing room. Springboard platform for divers securely enclosed. We hope to see Brighton in miniature reproduced. Season tickets 21s with boats to the baths at any time". These boats left from the old wharf at the foot of Wellington Street. The article concluded that "Brighton never eventuated, for within a short period, the baths were heard of no more. Maybe it was a venture ahead of its time." Hocquard and his family then moved to Te Puru, where they farmed and where he was buried
- ↑ Buried at Te Puru
- ↑ Jane Hocquard was born in Melbourne, Australia. The family moved not long afterwards to New Zealand, where she married and subsequently lived at Wellington. In about 1885, Thomas and Jane moved with their two children, Thomas and Lily, from Wellington to Te Puru, and were shipwrecked near Cape Jackson, on the way.
