Historic Environment Record entry

Listed building

A fine example of a 17th century Jersey house with a rare unaltered facade. Internally it retains some historic features. This building is shown on the Richmond Map of 1795. It is considered to date from the early 17th century.

Old Jersey Houses

Despite suggesting that this is the best example in Jersey of an untouched 17th century facade, the author only includes a brief entry in Volume One, mentioning the round arch, roof, chimney stacks and datestones.

Notes and references

  1. The datestone register records this as AMP SDM. As shown on the two corbels pictured, the lettering is NRM and SDM for Nicolas Remon (1634-1674) and Sara Dumaresq, daughter of Nicolas, who married in St Saviour in 1665. Their son Nicolas Remon (1668-1742) was Centenier of St Peter, 1698-1715 and Captain of Militia. He married Jeanne de Carteret Pipon. A grandson of the original couple was the notable St Aubin merchant, Constable of St Brelade and Militia Lieutenant-Colonel, Edouard Remon
