Origins of surname
Although an English name, Male is derived from old French masle, and implies a particularly masculine, virile man; although given the sense of humour of the Middle Ages English, it might have implied exactly the opposite.

This is a Miss Male, of Trinity House, photographed by Adolphus La Sauce in the 1870s. She was the daughter of Ephraim Maleand Hannah, nee Pike. They had three daughters (all born Jersey) - Hannah (1857- ), Mary (1859- ) and Susan (1864- ). This is believed to be Hannah, who married Elias Falle in 1885. Her brother Joseph married Selina Beaucamp the same year -
