This is our index page for births registered in St Helier from 1842 onwards. Records are available up to 2000 and we are progressively expanding the collection in our index on this page, which currently covers the years to 1976.
Unlike those for the other eleven parishes, these records have not yet been digitised and added to our database, but are presented as images of the pages in the Registrar's index. We hope in due course to be able to find the time and resources to add them individually to the database, which contains Church of England baptism records for the parish up to 1915.
The links open to page views of the Superintendent Registrar's indexes. Each page covers two complete registers. The records are sorted alphabetically by first letter of the family name, but within each letter the sorting is chronological, which means that if you have identified the year of birth of the person whose record you are searching for, you still need to look carefully through the section containing names beginning with the appropriate letter.
Each register contains 100 pages, so although individual records are not dated in the Superintendent Registrar's indexes, you can calculate an approximate month and year of birth from the start and end dates and the register page. No other information is given, but having identified a page in a particular register, a copy birth certificate can be obtained from the Superintendent Registrar.
