In common with the majority of our trees, this descendancy has been subject to regular review by site editors and checked against Jersey church records. Trees including French ancestry have also been checked as far as possible against French primary records. It is not always possible to carry out such checks on sections of trees with United Kingdom and/or colonial content
If you want to search for records for any name in this family tree, or for any other family name, just click below on the first letter of the family name you are interested in. This will open a new tab in your browser giving you a list of family names beginning with that letter, for which there are baptism records in our database of half a million church and public registry records.
You can also select marriages or burials. Select the name you want and when the list of records is displayed you can easily refine the search, choosing a single parish, given name(s) and/or start and end dates.
The records are displayed 30 to a page, but by selecting the Wiki Table option at the top left of the page you can open a full, scrollable list. This list will either be displayed in a new tab or a pop-up window. You may have to edit the settings of your browser to allow pop-up windows for www.jerripediabmd.net. For the small number of family names for which a search generates more than 1,500 records you will have to refine your search (perhaps using start or end dates) to reduce the number of records found.

Notes and references
- ↑ Godparents: Elie Dumaresq, son of Abraham, and Jeanne, wife of unknown Giffard, grandfather and grandmother
- ↑ A Rachel Giffard was buried in St Brelade in 1727, "the widow of Jean Hocquard," whom she had married in 1690
- ↑ There was a "Jean Giffard, Centenier of this parish buried in February 1691." Furthermore, there is evidence that a Jean Giffard married twice and had issue of his second marriage, which probably took place in St Brelade on 27 September 1702, to Jeanne Pipon. His identity is unclear. The burial of his first wife and further detail of their issue and of their dates of death are required
- ↑ Godparents: Edouard Giffard and Rachel his mother, the child`s uncle and grandmother. Rachel`s godparents tend to confirm the parents` marriage entry in St Lawrence, in which the parties` parishes were not recorded
- ↑ Godparents: Jean Giffard and Susanne Le Brocq, wife of Jean Guillaume
- ↑ Named after his godfather, Abraham Le Filliastre. His godmother was Le Filliastre`s wife Elizabeth
- ↑ William Seward, godfather
- ↑ Edouard`s godparents were Edouard Giffard and his wife, who may have been either of two couples, but were probably the child`s grandparents
- ↑ Their son Edouard Giffard and his wife Rachel Le Marquand, were godparents in 1762 to Edouard, the child of Philippe Giffard and Elizabeth Jeffrey, his wife, Edouard and Philippe being 1st cousins. There was, however, another Edouard, one generation further removed, being Edouard (1689- ), son of Jean. He may have been the man of this name who married Marie Pipon
- ↑ Of the two burials in St Brelade of an Edouard Giffard in 1778 and 1799, the latter may refer to the younger Edouard, the former to his father
- ↑ Son of Abraham (1651-1708), son of Edouard (1620-by 1701), of St Brelade
- ↑ Philippe Giffard and Elizabeth Cabot, his wife, were chosen as godparents in 1745 for Philippe, the son of Francois Giffard and Anne Le Sebirel, suggesting that the two families were related, even if not closely
- ↑ Son of Philippe Giffard and Elizabeth Cabot of St Brelade. His godmother in 1733 was Delaval Pipon, who was also godmother in 1764 to Philippe`s own son, William Giffard. He lived in St Brelade and was a master mariner; master of Eole, (1778), among other vessels: John Jean, Jersey Sailing Ships, . His marriage is now established. Philippe, as previously shown on this page, formerly believed to have been born to Francois and Anne, nee Le Sebirel, in 1739, was shown to have died in 1743. His younger brother of the same name (1745-1768), could not have married in 1755
- ↑ Master mariner, master of the 115 ton, 2 gun, brigantine Elizabeth (1790-92), owned by Jean Villeneuve: John Jean, Jersey Sailing Ships
- ↑ Godparents: Giffard grandparents and Catherine Giffard
- ↑ Grandmother: her aunt, Catherine Giffard
- ↑ Godparents Thomas Giffard and Marie Madeleine Marett, his wife
- ↑ Godparents: Philippe Benest and Catherine Giffard, wife of Philippe Bechervaise
- ↑ Godparents: Henry Marett and Elizabeth Jeffrey, wife of Philippe Giffard
- ↑ Godparents: Me Edouard Giffard and Mse Rachel Le Marquand, his wife. He was buried in St Brelade in 1794 as "Me Edouard Giffard, son of Philippe"
- ↑ Occupation given as Carpenter, on the marriage of his daughter Esther, in 1849. His godparents were Me David Mauger and Mse Elizabeth Giffard, his wife
- ↑ Watchmaker
- ↑ Mariner. The original researcher of this tree believed that Philippe Giffard, husband of Elizabeth Gruchy, was St Brelade-born Philippe Giffard (1789- ). However, the St Helier register`s 1815 entry, relating to Philippe and Elizabeth`s marriage, states that both parties were of Trinity. Philippe does not feature in censuses. The St Brelade Philippe Giffard had, in 1789, for godparents: Philippe Bechervaise and Catherine Giffard, his wife
- ↑ Of Rouge Bouillon, St Helier; Master mariner (1881 Census), merchant and shipowner (1872-1879), owning with Pallot (above) the 154 ton brigantine Industry, of which he was master. He went to sea before 1836, serving aboard Charles Robin and Company's Blanchard. He was a second mate on various Robin-owned vessels 1840-1843, first mate aboard Dit-on, Seaflower, Telegraph and CRC 1843-1847, and in 1850 was master of the 95 ton schooner Dit-on: UK and Ireland, Masters and Mates Certificates, 1850-1927. His National Probate Calendar entry, in 1893, described him as of Welton House, Gorey, Jersey, master mariner. The wife of Nicolas Pallot was granted probate. Note: UK and Ireland Masters and Mates Certificates... at www.ancestry.co.uk has Captain Philip Giffard as being "Born 6th June 1818, Jersey." The Philippe Giffard featured on this page was baptised 9/6/1817. There may have been a one-year discrepancy in the date as stated, yet why would a mariner reduce, rather than increase, his age? The nearest namesake of his, in age, was Philippe Giffard, baptised in St Peter 25/10/1818, son of Pierre Giffard and his wife, Elizabeth Le Sueur. This date presents its own difficulties
- ↑ Alderney-born paper merchant and hanger, employing ten men, living at 18 Hill Street: 1881 Census
- ↑ Mariner, second mate in 1878; died at Mount Eden, Auckland, New Zealand
- ↑ Master mariner
- ↑ Mariner (1881). Emigrated to Australia
- ↑ Sailor on the Screw Steamer Boston of London : 1881 Census, Cornwall. Emigrated to Australia
- ↑ Master mariner, master of the 72-ton brig Peace (1786), which belonged to Charles Robin. The master of Peace in 1790-92 was Isaac Malzard, of the future merchant family, who was godfather in 1798 of William Bechervaise, son of Philippe and Catherine, nee Giffard, his wife. Philippe was also master of Amazon (1789-). He died of fever in 1811: John Jean, Jersey Sailing Vessels
