1328 Approximate time of construction of Grosnez Castle
1337 Hundred Years War begins
1338 Nicholas Behuchet, Admiral of France, occupied Jersey for six months. Unsuccessful attack on Mont Orgueil Castle
1339 Robert Bertrand, Marshal of France, invades. Mont Orgueil Castle resists again.
1341 Royal Charter issued by Edward III confirming independent status of island
1341 Reconsecration of St Helier's Parish Church after desecration during French attacks.
1348 The Black Death hits Jersey. The death rate in the island from the plague is not clear but two-thirds of the population of the Diocese of Coutances die between 1345 and 1348
1356 Large portion of St Ouen indundated by sea in great storm and Forêt de la Brequette submerged
1360 By Treaty of Bretigny French abandon all claims to the Channel Islands
1372 Raid by Ifan of Wales
1373 Bertrand du Guesclin, Constable of France, invades island. Breaks outer defences of Gorey Castle but fails to take the keep. Castle relieved by Admiral de Courtenay and Sir Ralph de Ferrers.
1377 Accession of Richard II
1378 Start of the Great Schism, with two rival popes. England recognised Pope Urban but France chooses Clement. This created problems for Jersey, which was still part of the French Diocese of Coutances
1394 Charter of Richard II granting islanders relief from tolls and customs
1399 Accession of Henry IV
