Royal Visits and celebrations

The death of a sovereign is an occasion for solemn ceremonial in Jersey, as in 1910 on the death of Edward VII

Although Jersey and the other Channel Islands have been the personal property of English and British monarchs since King John, visits by these monarchs have been surprisingly few and far between, until Queen Victoria started a new fashion in the 19th Century which was followed by her grandson, George V, and King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II

Jersey also has a long history of celebrating major Royal anniversaries, coronations and the proclamation of new monarchs. Military parades, church services and ceremonial arches have all formed part of these celebrations over the years.
