  1. ↑ Fouageur of Trinity, 1579-82. For his probable parents, see Descendants of Jean Alexandre - 4 The forename Leonard was comparatively rare in Jersey at this time. He was the only Leonard Alexandre. As such, he did not need distinguishing from any namesake in legal documents, by the addition of a father`s name. Leonard, in common with Regnauld Alexandre and his son Richard, of the above family, faced difficulties with the then affluent Trinity Le Boutilliers. In 1573 he had bought part of the inheritance of François Le Boutillier, son of Collas. By 1585 Jean Le Boutillier son of Philippe had acquired "all or part of the inheritance," probably that of Francois Le Boutillier, then in the possession of Leonard. This was doubtless the same Jean Le Boutillier, son of Philippe who, in 1607 was purchasing assets from Richard Alexandre- RP 2/132. Regnauld, Leonard and Richard Alexandre were not the only Alexandres entangled at that time with the Le Boutilliers. On 22 September 1597, there appeared before the Cour d`Héritage, featuring on the same page of the court rolls as Leonard Alexandre, Servais Alexandre. He had sold part of his inheritance to Philippe Le Boutillier, son of Jean. Leonard had sold to Jean Le Boutillier, son of Philippe, what was, in this new action, clearly stated as part of his inheritance. What gave rise to the 1597 action was that the Le Boutilliers had apparently conducted these purchases, whether of land or rentes without involving Gilles Lemprière, Seigneur du Fieu Noble de la Trinité, on whose fief the Alexandre land was situated. The dispute probably arose in Regnauld Alexandre`s generation, being continued, or resolved, by what seem to have been his three sons

A case before the Cour du Samedi, dated 14 September 1754, was Alexandre`s action against his brother-in-law Jean Le Geyt, son of Jean. Eight cows belonging to Le Geyt had been shipped to England in October 1753 aboard the Gratitude, but the invoice in the sum of 53 Livres, 6 sols and 8 deniers, had yet to be paid. Alexandre commanded, between 1756 and 1758, the privateers Union and Revenge. A ship he owned in his own right is recorded as arriving in 1757 from Southampton with a cargo of barley - J Jean Jersey Sailing Ships,. Jean records Alexandre as a privateer captain 1756-1763, supplying the dates of that particular war, rather than of Alexandre's career, as the latter died, perhaps from injuries received in action, in 1758. His Letter of Marque, one of the earliest surviving in Jersey, is dated 4 June 1756 and is reproduced in A C Saunders' Jersey in the 18th and 19th Centuries, This book describes the Revenge as of 30 tons, with four cannons, six swivel guns and 30 men. Mention is then made that on 27 July 1756, Captain Alexandre captured a prize worth £10,000, and later on several others

For many years, between the remarriage of Susanne Le Gros, widow of the last Charles Alexandre, and 1834, Beaulieu was either let or unoccupied, as a contract in the possession of the Le Brun family mentions it as being in a ruinous state, necessitating considerable repairs and rebuilding

This had arisen from discontent and suspicion of the small, inter-related 'junta', led by the Lemprières, that virtually ruled the Island at this time. Alleged manipulation of corn prices had been a `last straw`. At a meeting of the Royal Court on 25 January 1770, orders were given for the arrest of the ringleaders, among whom he was named and duly arrested, although little actually came of it, due to the influence of those appointed to examine the populace`s various grievances, which led to reform
